In order to prevent crime and protect the citizens of Bonn, the police will - as in previous years - carry out video surveillance measures at selected crime hotspots and at major events.
In the past, this successful measure has met with broad approval, but also with criticism in individual cases. As a result, the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of North Rhine-Westphalia (LDI NRW) also contacted the Bonn police.
In a constructive dialogue on the data protection aspects and assessments of the LDI, the camera deployment on the banks of the Rhine in Beuel and the information and identification of the measure were discussed.
Taking this into account, the requirements standardized in the Police Act and in light of current case law from the Cologne Higher Administrative Court, video surveillance measures were ordered for the period from 25.10.2024 to 26.10.2024. During this period, a Bonn police video tower will be set up at the Poststraße/Maximilianstraße and Hofgarten locations.
"My mission and the expectations of Bonn's citizens towards the police is to ensure the greatest possible security. Video surveillance makes an important contribution to this," says Police Commissioner Frank Hoever.
